WA: Barnett considers WA Liberal leadership options
West Australian Liberal party deputy leader COLIN BARNETT is considering challenging
outgoing premier RICHARD COURT'S party leadership.
Mr COURT was originally expected to step down after the coalition's defeat in Saturday's
state election, with senior Liberals jostling for the party leadership.
But yesterday, he said he wanted to stay on as party leader and state opposition leader.
Mr BARNETT -- who was education and energy in the coalition government -- has been
widely tipped as Mr COURT'S replacement from the small field of remaining senior Liberals.
Mr COURT says he wants to remain on the job while the party stabilises.
He's told ABC radio he'll stay as long as it's considered in the best interests of the party.
A spokeswoman for Mr BARNETT says he may challenge for leadership in the next few days or weeks.
