Fed: Tourism jobs critical in marginal seats - TTF
A peak tourism industry lobby group says tourism is a critical provider of jobs in
regional Australia and will play a vital role in the upcoming federal election.
Tourism and Transport Forum managing director CHRISTOPHER BROWN says the group's National
Employment Atlas 2004 shows a number of key marginal seats where the concentration of
tourist jobs is high enough to swing the vote.
Marginal Coalition electorates including Eden-Monaro, Richmond, Solomon and Herbert
have more than six per cent tourism employment.
Marginal ALP seats such as Brisbane, Bass, Ballarat and Lowe also have a tourism employment
rate of more than six per cent.
Mr BROWN says Labor must commit to honouring the government's $235 million tourism
white paper if elected.
