NSW: Most workers not worried about recession
SYDNEY, Dec 12 AAP - Men are more optimistic about the economy than women, according
to a new survey.
While 59 per cent of the 5,000 employees surveyed did not believe Australia was headed
for a full-blown recession, online recruitment agency TMP Worldwide found nearly two-thirds
of male respondents saw an economic silver lining compared to just over half the women
surveyed.
Women also differed from their male colleagues when it came to helping their employer
weather a recession.
Taking leave is seen as the best way for men to help their organisation, with 41 per
cent of male respondents prepared to take this step.
Thirty-nine per cent of women said they would be willing to work less hours to support
their employer and just 28 per cent would to take leave if necessary.
If the sexes agree on anything, it's that pay cuts are not the way to go.
Only 16 per cent of men and 12 per cent of women would be willing to sacrifice pay
in order to help their organisation survive a recession, making it the least favourite
option for both groups.
Pay cuts are most acceptable for employees aged over 55, with a third in this group
prepared to take this step, while only six per cent of workers aged 25-34 would consider
the option.
