Qld: Children's books of the year announced

The stories of a pigeon's broken wing .. and a young girl collecting natural colours
from the bush to make woven baskets are among Australia's best children's books of 2009.

This years winners of the 2009 children's book awards have been announced at Sea World
on the Gold Coast .. marking the beginning of Children's Book Week.

Governor of Queensland .. PENELOPE WeNSLEY says the winning books take readers on a
plethora of incredible journeys from Everest to Antarctica .. from stories of our history
to fantastic worlds of the imagination.

The Older Readers Book of the Year has been given to .. Tales from Outer Suburbia ..

the Younger Readers prize has gone to .. Perry Angel's Suitcase .. while the best Early
Childhood award has been won by .. How to Heal a Broken Wing.

The Picture Book of the Year has been awarded to Kylie Dunstan's Collecting Colour.
